To that end, the KHRC strives to provide the racing industry with the most extensive scope of testing employing state-of-the-art instrumentation. The KHRC has contracted with Horseracing Forensic Laboratory (HFL) of Lexington, Dr. Richard Sams, laboratory director, to provide testing services. HFL performs testing on all post-race samples to the specifications of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association’s North American Graded Stakes’ Committee. TCO2 analysis is performed on pre-race samples collected from horses in all Graded Stakes and randomly selected overnight races. Out-of-competition blood samples are analyzed by HFL for blood doping agents and other prohibited substances.
